FIVE YEARS OF DIALOGUES

Hard to believe it’s been five years since the launch of Dialogue New York. We’ve seen influencer marketing explode onto the scene and evolve in its sophistication throughout that time. Through it all, one thing remains constant, our commitment to creating genuine dialogues that resonate and break through the social noise. To celebrate our anniversary, we asked Dialogue’s Founder, Julianne about our company’s start.

01 Tell us about your inspiration for founding Dialogue?

The idea of Dialogue sparked over brunch with a mentor of mine in Williamsburg. Having started my career in social media marketing around the time Instagram had launched, I saw how much the industry had grown in a short period, and how influencers continued to drive impact. The industry was what I lovingly refer to as the Wild, Wild, West, with many players taking varied approaches (from PR firms to performance marketing agencies and complex platforms, trying to automate it all), but I was convinced it could all be simplified, with genuine relationships at the center of it all.

“The industry was what I lovingly refer to as the Wild, Wild, West”

02 Where did the name ‘Dialogue’ come from?

I stumbled across a store called “Monologue” while walking the streets of Bordeaux, France and thought it had a good ring to it. The notion of dialogues made perfect sense, as we unite brands and creatives to build meaningful dialogues that resonate. So, voila! Dialogue New York was formed.

03

Dialogue’s first client + Dialogue’s most recent client?

Clé de Peau Beauté, a luxury beauty brand under the Shiseido umbrella, was our first client. And Emily DiDonato’s skincare brand, Covey, is our latest. A nice full circle moment in beauty.

04 How many clients has Dialogue had over the years?

We just reached the 60 client mark!

05 What’s a lesson you’ve learned as a result of your day-to-day as a founder?

A reputation takes decades to build and a split second to fall, relationships are truly everything in business. From building trust with our clients to respect with the influencer community and collaboration with my teammates, our business is built on trust and respect with all of our partners.

“relationships are truly everything in business.”

06 Tell us about a stand-out client memory in the 5 years?

Heading to Tokyo and Kyoto with Shiseido and influencer, Aimée Song to execute a global campaign I’m proud of.

07 What differentiates Dialogue from other consulting agencies?

Our work is rooted in creativity and strategy. We are conscious to build thoughtful campaigns, unique to each of our clients, in order to break through the social noise. We are known for building a “halo effect” for our clients, thanks to purposeful influencer curation, thoughtful timing and meticulous execution.

08 What’s one of the biggest ways you’ve noticed the influencer landscape change in the last 5 years?

I remember watching social media unfold, seen as an auxiliary tactic and evolving into the most important element of a brand’s marketing strategy. The same is happening with influencer marketing. It was once scoffed at, but now every brand knows it must invest in this tactic in order to succeed.

09 Looking back, what piece of advice would you give yourself 5 years ago?

Trust your intuition, it’s almost always right. Not everyone in business has good intentions, so don’t ignore those warning signs when they appear.

“trust your intuition, it’s almost always right”

10 Any thoughts of where you hope Dialogue will be 5 years from now?

My goal has always been to build a passionate and empowered team who loves coming to work every day and to offer clients guidance and inspiration to build powerful communities of advocates. With my focus on these two things, sky’s the limit!
